text: My first MSDOS-compatible comp was a Tandy 1000TX with a 20meg Hardcard. I rescued it from the landfill and it had CM-5 monitor. Great machine...... although not as good as my maxed-out CoCo 3. I wish I still had both of them.

text: My first computer bought w/Tandy credit card at 21$ interest, so I got the bare bones model. Used a black + white portable TV as a monitor. Not great when I was taking a BASIC programming class. Had to scroll up and down to see the line $s due to the curved left and right sides of the TV''s display. Loved DeskMate software!

text: My 3rd computer was a Tandy 1000SX, I stated with a Tandy Color Mini MC-10 and then a TRS-80 4P "portable". I have my original MC-10 and a 4P I was given a few years ago. Recently added a Tandy 1000 HD to the collection. The HD was the original 1000 with a factory Hard Drive.

text: I had a base Tandy 1000. It definitely didn''t have DOS or Deskmate in ROM. I used the basic system until I realized it was almost unusable without the upgrade to 640K. I also had the Tandy 300 baud modem which was an abomination that had no speaker and couldn''t detect busy signal. I later upgraded to a 10 meg hard drive after I figured out how Tandy had flipped the Hard Drive and Video IRQ''s on the motherboard so you needed a specially modified Western Digital controller board to make it work. Despite all of that I loved the thing!

text: I had both the Tandy 1000 (purchased in 1986) and the Tandy 1000 TL. I was very satisfied with both. I was a previous owner of the TRS-80 (my introduction to home computers and programming). The things which that drew me to the Tandy 1000-series were the price (several hundred dollars cheaper than the IBM counterpart), ease of upgrade (I always installed my own parts) and the 16-color monitor and 3-voice sound card (available in the PC Jr, but no one wanted a computer named Junior!)

text: I HAD a Tandy-1000. It was in perfect working condition but sadly, when I had to move from a house to an apartment (downsizing) two years ago, it simply could not fit. I had a choice $ keep the Commodore 64 (the computer I had as a kid) or the T1000 (one that was gifted to me 10 years ago from family friends). The case of the computer was damaged in a house fire years before but it otherwise worked perfectly. In the end, it was scrapped for parts. :( I kept those parts and used them when I was teaching at university as part of a class project to construct a computer. :) In a way... it lives on. I enjoyed writing this article years ago and still love to read it. :)

text: I have a tandy 1000 TL/2. It has 640kb of RAM, a 3.5 inch floppy drive for 760k disks, CGA monitor, and Deskmate 3. Deskmate comes with Hangman, a word processor, a program to create and record music, a worksheet program, a painting program, a caculator, some schedule keeping things, PC-Link, address keeping programs, a telephone answering program, and MS-dos 3.3. Deskmate and DOS are built into the ROM so it starts up very fast (3-6 seconds!). It has 4 8-bit ISA slots (I think), you can add an IDE hard drive, and a CD-ROM drive can be added. Somehow the monitor works even though one of the connection pins on the cable is missing. anyway its an excellent machine.

Wow, what a trip down memory lane...
I bought the the original Tandy 1000 (4.77mhz, 128k ram, 2 5¼ disk drives, CGA monitor) for $1600can the year it came out (I was a teenager). I later bought an expansion board to bring the ram up to 640k, which also set be back some serious dough back then! :) It was indeed a beast in its days.

The Tandy 1000 was my gaming machine, side-by-side with my Colecovision. While the Colecovision has long since been dead, my Tandy 1000 still runs when I hook it up. I still have 20+ games, all in 16 color glory.
It''s nice knowing it still chugs along, because it was a great introduction into PC gaming :)

text: Much as I hate to argue, but the Tandy 1000 HX was not the first. The original was the Tandey 1000 (no letters after) I always wondered what dad $ped on mine was, but I spent many summers as a kid cutting grass just to pay him for it. It was my first true DOS pc. Prior to that I used a CPM board and a WHYSINC terminal. My T-1000 was a beast for the time I had the memory maxed, a 3.5 inch 720k floppy, and a 20 meg MFM HD card. (it was a drive mounted on a card that was latter replaced with two 70meg 5.25 full hight HD in a AT case. I went to the local computer junk store and had the ribbion cables custom made (about 3 feet a peiece. the data cable and the two control cables) I used that system till it finally died and I moved on the the 386/16mhz around 1988. It was the Best first real computer I ever hadm and even though I have sever Laptops and desktops with things that I never would have thought of then I still miss that old Tandy PC

text: As a child, we had the Tandy 1000 HD in our house, which was the original Tandy 1000, but with a 10MB hard drive in the 2nd bay instead of a floppy. I can't imagine what my dad dropped to buy that machine at the time (circa 1985). Let me tell you, this thing was a rock! I think it never actually died, we just ended up replacing it with a 386 at some point. I owe my DOS skills and lifelong fascination with computers to that system.
