text: I remember the 4050 well. Top of Sanyo''s range of computers at the time. 640K RAM if I remember rightly$ sold at the time for around £2500- 3000 in UK I think$ Not many were sold though. May well have been supplied with Wordstar, Calcstar $ Datastar applications free of charge. It was first "real" computer I had access to (one at the office one at home). Well as Ad Manager for Sanyo at the time I had to know how to use the darned things in order to write the leaflets!

I recently aquired a complete mbc 4050, stripped it, cleaned and serviced the drives, reseated all ic''s ,and now this has to be the best, and quickest cp/m machine in my collection, and so quiet in use, the drives will read the disks almost instanty, and quietly, superb piece of engineering!\
but why did they make the keyboard so big??

The Sanyo MBC-4000 series succeeded to the [MBC-1150](/museum/sanyo-mbc-1100-1150/). It was the same all-in-one system including one (MBC-4000) or two (MBC-4050) 5.25" floppy drives, a monochrome display and a very complete keyboard.
It featured a true 16-bit Intel 8086 CPU and shipped with the CP/M-86 operating system as well as a Basic interpreter and a spreadsheet called Goal.\
MS-DOS 2.11 was also available on this machine.
